Beat Scene #54
Wednesday, January 16th, 2008Something wonderful happened today. The new issue of Beat Scene arrived from Kevin Ring in England, and I remembered again why I love the magazine so much.
In the mid 1990s when I worked at the Dymocks bookstore on George St, I used to spend a lot of my lunch hours (and a lot of my pay) in a little shop called Waterfront Records. At the time it was located on York Street.
As well as music, Waterfront sold t-shirts, concert tickets, and a carefully chosen range of books and magazines. They specialised in rock and punk titles, music interviews, subculture and small zines, and they had a section by and about the Beats.
